Meaningful Use Measures per CMS
▼
The Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs provide a financial incentive for the "meaningful use" of certified EHR technology to achieve health and efficiency goals. By putting into action and meaningfully using an EHR system, providers will reap benefits beyond financial incentives–such as reduction in errors, availability of records and data, reminders and alerts, clinical decision support, and e-prescribing/refill automation.
Visit the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services website for more information.

Transitioning to ICD-10
▼
By Beth Just, MBA, RHIA, FAHIMA, November 24, 2010
The clock is ticking on the deadline to begin submitting claims utilizing
ICD-10 code sets, yet few hospitals have made significant inroads into
the transition. With no indication that the October 2013 deadline will change, facilities that are not already deep into the transition will find
themselves scrambling to comply -- not an ideal approach to a process
that will ultimately drive billing and reimbursement.

The ROI of EMR Explained, Part 2: Show Me The Money
▼
Dr. Michael Koriwchak (October 5, 2010)
It’s time again to face the Doubters, those physicians who would dare question the benefits of EMR to the medical
practice. Incredibly, the Doubters are unimpressed by EMR product literature containing pictures of beautiful providers
holding shiny tablet PCs taking care of happy, smiling (are they even sick?) patients. They have the audacity to want to
know their return on investment.

What Does "Meaningful Use" Mean for Pediatrics?
▼
Christoph U Lehmann; Jennifer Mansour; Jonathan D Klein - September 15, 2010;
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 authorizes the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
(CMS) to provide reimbursement incentives for eligible professionals and hospitals who become 'meaningful users'
of certified electronic health record (EHR) technology. The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information
Technology (ONCHIT) published a Notice of Proposed Rule Making that defines meaningful use. The goal of this
rule is to assure that EHR technology is used to improve the quality of patient care. Children's needs demand
specific consideration when health information technology is developed and implemented. The different stages of
growth, development and socialization of childhood require different meaningful use criteria that must be developed
carefully for the diverse pediatric patient population. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) suggests a number
of principles for meaningful use in pediatrics.

Get Ready for EHR
Failures, But Don’t Blame the Software
▼
Thursday, March 12, 2009
With the Economic Stimulus Bill signed and available to
subsidize EHR purchases (for more information see “The Stimulus
Bill and Meaningful Use of Qualified EHRs/EMRs“), we are seeing
a dramatic increase in electronic health records (EHR) buyer
interest. Assuming these buyers make use of the stimulus subsidy
to buy an EHR, we expect to see a lot of EHR failures over the
next couple years.

Why Some Providers Remain Wary
▼
By Jeff Rowe, Editor
It seems safe to say that hardly anyone hasn’t experienced
the downside of the “convenience” of modern technology. You lose precious time in the office
because your computer, or perhaps the company’s entire
system, locks up. You’re on the phone with a supplier
who apologizes and asks you to call back because, well, their
system is locked up. You go to an ATM machine to get some cash,
only to leave empty-handed because “the system is temporarily
off-line.”
